Conor McGregor Sued for Sexual Assault at NBA Finals

A new lawsuit has been filed against MMA fighter, Conor McGregor, alleging sexual assault during a 2023 NBA Finals game. The suit also accuses Kaseya Center of committing gross negligence for allowing McGregor to pour his own alcoholic drinks and continuing to serve him after he became overly intoxicated.

According to the suit, Plaintiff Jane Doe claims she was sexually assaulted by McGregor in the men’s bathroom at Miami Heat’s Kaseya Center on June 9, 2023. The alleged assault took place after Game 4 of the NBA Finals series between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets.

Court documents describe how the woman and McGregor began talking in the Courtside Club after the game ended. The woman was then approached by a member of McGregor’s team who allegedly said, “Conor told me to come get you,” before grabbing the woman by the wrist. The woman claims she asked the team member to let go of her, but was told, “No, Conor will kill me if I lose you.”

McGregor then allegedly took hold of the woman and let her into the men’s restroom. The woman’s friend tried to follow them inside but was allegedly blocked by Kaseya Center staff. According to the suit, McGregor then “slammed” the woman into a wall and assaulted her inside a restroom stall.

At the time of the alleged incident, the woman filed a report with the Miami police department. However, no charges were brought against McGregor, who denied the accusations.

The woman also sent a demand letter to McGregor back in June 2023, accusing him of “[elevating] his aggressive, unprovoked, and outrageous behavior by violently sexually assaulting and battering this firm’s client in the men’s bathroom of the Kaseya Center.”

In response to the new suit, McGregor’s attorney stated, “after a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue. Almost two years and at least three lawyers later the plaintiff has a new false story.” She added that she and McGregor are “confident that this case too will be dismissed.”

In the complaint, Jane Doe is described as 49 years old and “employed as a Senior Wall Street Vice President at a high-profile financial institution.”  According to her attorney, James Dunn, “her main goal in filing this suit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.”

The complaint describes how, during halftime, McGregor twice punched the Miami Heat mascot, “Burnie,” who later ended up going to the hospital. The punches were supposed to be an act to promote pain relief spray.

In the lawsuit, the woman is also accusing employees and security of having “actual knowledge of the wrongfulness of the conduct,” yet failing to intervene. Despite being aware of a “heightened risk of battery” taking place, staff continued to serve McGregor alcohol, according to the complaint.

The filing comes two months after McGregor was ordered to pay more than $250,000 after losing a civil case against Nikita Hand, a woman who alleged McGregor violently assaulted her in 2018 in a hotel in Dublin.
